Al Qaeda's Nr. 2 Discredits Obama-Election Evoking the Distinction between House and Field Negroes

Obama Bin Laden’s deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, in the most recent Al Qaeda tape praised Malcolm X bringing discredit on the US president-elect Barack Obama:

“And in you and in Colin Powell, Rice and your likes, the words of Malcolm X (may Allah have mercy on him) concerning ‘House Negroes’ are confirmed.”

Reintroducing the distinction between House and Field Negroes, al-Zawahiri intents to destroy the powerful symbolic message the election election of a black president has produced attacking Obama in his weak point.

In his victory speech Barack Obama asserted that change had come to America. But, Actions speak louder than words. And most probably the new president won’t be able to live up to his promises of a completely different America. The country’s lower class (composed mainly of people of colour) might be even more frustrated if a black president of humble origins won’t be able to improve their lives. Thus, the above mentioned distinction is not far-fetched and contains dangerous potential. Most Afro-Americans have not forgotten Condoleeza Rice’s lack of interest in the victim’s of Katrina.  Credibility and faith in the system would decline to an all-time low. So far the negative scenario.

From a more sophisticated point of view Al Qaeda’s last message can be interpreted quite positively. The terrorist network is worried about the symbolic power of a black president, whose second name is Hussein, and who stands for diplomacy, thus less aggressiveness. Even if Obama managed to shut the inhumane Guantanamo detention center he would thwart terrorism, for injustice and despair caused by the world’s beacon of democracy would begin to crumble.
